Sexual Graphics Issue: A sensational body of work!
Where to draw the line between eroticism and pornography is a debate that has characterized much of the controversy in the art world since the late 19th century: be it painting, sculpture, literature, drama, the cinema, even music. And it is still going on in today's computerized world of graphic design.
For this issue's main feature, IdN invited 11 designers from various fields and countries, all of whom have achieved something of a reputation for the erotic content of their work, to discuss the difference between "erotic" and "dirty". And to show us some prime examples of their sensational/sensationalist art.
Colombia rediscovers design
Graphic design would not be the first thing to spring to a foreigner's mind when asked what they know about Colombia. But here are 13 artists represented who are a cross-section of contemporary Colombian creative talent. They mainly hail from the two major cities, Bogota and Medellin, and the impact of a vibrant albeit often violent urban environment is evidenced in a strong strain of irony and vivid use of color. The collage technique has proven ideal for reflecting the sometimes chaotic sensations produced by the country's intense street life, while the influence of Colombia's most famous novelist, the Nobel Prize-winning Gabriel Garcia Marquez, with his "magical realism", cannot be ignored.
