IdN Special 02: Cultvision

The phrase "cult movie" is controversial. What one group of dedicated fans regard highly enough to turn into a cult may have others wondering what all the fuss is about. Whether you consider them to be "cult" under the definition discussed above is open to debate, but IdN is very proud to have invited nine of the world's top filmmakers to discuss their approach to their art, what we may in all fairness term their "cultvision".

Interviews with these leading independent filmmakers, they have used one or more films as a point of reference when discussing their craft. This book shares the insights of and to explore some previously uncharted territories together with the following directors and producers: Fruit Chan (Made In Hong Kong), Spike Jonze (Adaptation, Being John Malcovich), Roman Coppola (CQ), Mark Magidson (Baraka), Shinya Tsukamoto (Iron Man), Lou Ye (Suzhou River) , Jean-Pierre Jeunet (Amélie), David Lynch (Eraser Head) and Kinji Fukasaku (Battle Royale).

With the objective of producing an breathe-taking book, Les Suen as Commission Art Director taking advantage of his professionalism and creativity in book design. Les makes use of nine set of paper of different size to represent the nine directors featured in the special issue. This concept of "reconstruction" brings out the tension among the nine sets of paper and creates an interesting and unique reading experience, which should not be missed.
