Spirale

Spirale - An Artists' Magazine: 1953?1964
Editor: Annemarie Bucher

"Spirale," international magazine of recent art edited by Marcel Wyss, Dieter Roth, and Eugen Gromringer, was issued nine times between 1953 and 1964 in Bern. As one of the most important testimonials to developments in Swiss art in the 1950s, it marks the rise of a new generation in postwar art, traces the development of abstract and constructive/concrete art in Europe, and offers concrete poetry its first forum. "spirale" advances an expanded concept of art which includes photography and architecture. As such, it is an invaluable historical document. The publication contains all nine issues of the magazine as well as analyses of the artistic and social background against which it emerged.
