The theme of this book is drawing as the catalyst of design processes. The electronic creation and production of images in all the design profesions has led today to fundamental changes in the design processes. At the same time many concepts oriented towards mechanical criterion have lost their style forming function in the educational framework. Hence, drawing has gained new importance. Designing by drawing mobilizes the eye, the head and the hand to equal degree, and it establishes connections among the senses that the designer can only experience in a very limited way on the computer screen.
The author Peter Olpe is a graphic designer and has taught for 25 years at the School of Design in Basel. Lectures and teaching positions have lead him among other places, to the Rhode Island School of Design in America, and to the Universidad Anahuac in Mexico.
